Pipe-in-pipe innovation

A.Hak Leidingbouw, one of the shareholders in aQuaintance, has been declared the winner of the annual ISTT No-Dig Award in the category Renovation projects.

A.Hak Leidingbouw received the prestigious award for repairing a production water pipe for the Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij (NAM) with the trenchless pipe-in-pipe method. An HDPE pipeline reinforced with steel, manufactured by FlexSteel, was inserted into the existing pipeline.

Although pipe-in-pipe projects are not necessarily revolutionary, this project proved particularly challenging. The route was 45 kilometres long and the existing steel pipeline, into which the flexible pipeline was inserted, contained a large number of complex curves. A.Hak Leidingbouw designed a suitable solution and built a comprehensive test environment that proved its applicability in advance.

The expertise of the A.Hak sister companies and its Equipment Department proved indispensable for this. Together they selected and modified the required equipment and materials to complete this project safely and in accordance with the specifications and planning.

This remediation project was carried out by aQuaintance, NAM's contract partner for all design, purchasing and construction tasks for onshore projects. aQuaintance consists of the shareholders A.Hak Leidingbouw, Tebodin and Engie. Tebodin specialises in design, Engie is responsible for all locations and A.Hak Leidingbouw is in charge of all pipeline works, including this special repair project.
