First half landfall completed

29 April 2019

While the Netherlands celebrated King's Day, it was also a joyful day at our project location in Israel. On the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, the first half of our Direct-Pipe drilling was successfully completed. A.Hak is carrying out this drilling for the landfall of a gas pipeline.

A.Hak's client is the Franco-American company TechnipFMC. The end customer is the Greek company Energean, which will use the pipeline to bring the natural gas from its concession from the Karish Tanin gas field in the Mediterranean Sea ashore. For A.Hak, the drilling contract came in quick succession of the first succesful Direct-Pipe landfall carried out for Allseas, at only a short distance from the current project site.

The use of Direct-Pipe technology will spare the vulnerable coastline in Israel. This is necessary because rare sea turtles breed here. In addition, further development of the technology will ensure that much safer work can be done by reducing the number of diving hours by no less than 85 percent.

Earlier this month, the Executive Board of A.Hak, consisting of Remco Smit (CEO) and Rob Bombeeck, visited the project. Wilko Koop, director of A.Hak International, showed them around at the site. 'It's impressive to see how a highly motivated team that is perfectly attuned to each other can handle such a complex technical and logistical operation smoothly,' said Rob Bombeeck after the visit. 'You only fully appreciate that, when you're right there to see the work for yourself and speak to the people on location that do such a great job.'
